Sedation

Safe procedural sedation, including monitoring, airway management, sedation drugs, recovery care, and complication prevention.

Course Description

This course provides an essential foundation in procedural sedation and safe sedation practices at KKESH. It covers sedation levels, patient monitoring requirements, airway management, sedation pharmacology, recovery standards, and management of adverse events. Learners will explore patient safety considerations across age groups, including pediatric and elderly populations, and will strengthen their ability to prevent sedation-related complications through evidence-based protocols.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand Sedation Levels and Policies: Define minimal, moderate, and deep sedation and understand KKESH procedural sedation policies.
  • Apply Principles of Safe Sedation: Identify the goals of safe sedation and apply safety practices to maintain patient stability throughout the procedure.
  • Recognize Patient-Specific Considerations: Differentiate pharmacological and physiological variations in children and elderly patients during sedation.
  • Manage Risks and Complications: Recognize common adverse events in pediatric sedation and perform appropriate airway management and rescue interventions.
  • Ensure Safe Patient Care Continuum: Safely manage patients during sedation and ensure proper monitoring, recovery, and discharge while integrating best practices into daily care.
