Course Description
This course provides healthcare staff with essential knowledge and practical guidance on pain assessment and pain management at KKESH. It covers pain physiology, patient communication, pain measurement tools, barriers to effective pain control, and safe pain treatment strategies. Learners will explore pain management across different patient groups including pediatric and geriatric patients, and will strengthen their ability to support safe, effective, and patient-centered pain relief.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Define pain management principles and the systemic impact of uncontrolled pain on patient recovery.
- Execute accurate assessments using age-appropriate tools (Numeric, Faces, FLACC) and body mapping techniques.
- Apply specific safety considerations for pediatric, geriatric, and developmentally delayed patient populations.
- Document pain as the "5th vital sign" in TrackCare according to KKESH assessment and reassessment frequency protocols.
- Implement appropriate interventions using the KKESH formulary (pharmacological) and comfort measures (non-pharmacological).
- Report uncontrolled pain and medication side effects to the interdisciplinary team within one hour of intervention.
