Course Description
This course equips healthcare staff with the knowledge and skills needed to prevent patient falls and reduce fall-related injuries at KKESH. It focuses on identifying fall risk factors, conducting risk assessments, applying prevention interventions, and promoting safe mobility. Learners will explore environmental, clinical, and medication-related fall risks and will strengthen patient education practices to ensure a safer hospital environment.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Identify fall risk factors utilizing the JHFRAT (for adults) and Humpty Dumpty (for pediatrics) assessment scales.
- Conduct systematic assessments upon admission, on a daily basis, and whenever a patient’s condition or medication profile changes.
- Apply Standard Protocol 14 interventions, including the use of yellow "Fall Risk" armbands, bed signage, and environmental safety checks.
- Implement the ABC framework (Assist with ambulation, Bathroom routine, Call for assistance) to proactively manage patient needs and prevent falls.
- Execute the seven-step post-fall response, covering immediate assessment, physician notification, and incident reporting via the Salamah system.
- Educate patients and families on safety behaviors, establishing a partnership to maintain a safe hospital environment.
